Itinerary
- 1
Round Tower
Built by King Christian IV in the 1630s–40s as an astronomical observatory. Instead of stairs, a wide spiral ramp leads to the top — legend says the Russian Tsar Peter the Great rode up on horseback.
- 2
Strøget
One of Europe's longest pedestrian streets, made car-free in 1962. We walk the old merchant route and look at the squares and churches hidden along the way.
- 3
Kongens Nytorv
The grand square of the 17th century, created when the city expanded beyond its medieval walls.
- 4
Nyhavn
The old harbour canal dug in the 1670s, where ships once unloaded goods from across the world.
- 5
Amalienborg
The rococo palaces built for noble families in the 1750s, which became the royal residence after Christiansborg burned in 1794.
- 6
Christiansborg Palace
On the islet of Slotsholmen, where Bishop Absalon built the first castle in 1167. Today the palace houses the Danish Parliament, the Supreme Court and the Prime Minister's Office — the only building in the world to house all three branches of a country's government.
